朝、寝室を出て廊下に出たとたんに暑さが襲ってきました。今日も強い陽射しが照りつける暑い日になりました。ニューノーマルという言葉が聞かれるようになりましたが、このような異常な天候は異常ではなくなり、これが普通になってしまうのかも知れません。日本には移りゆく四季があって、とても良いことなのですが、これからは夏と冬の二季になってしまうのかも知れません。今日はクルミくんとたくさん時間を一緒にすることができました。おもちゃで遊び疲れると眠る、その繰り返しでした。

As soon as I left my bedroom and stepped into the hallway in the morning, the heat hit me. It’s another hot day with the sun blazing down relentlessly. The term ‘New Normal’ has become more prevalent, and this abnormal weather might just become the new norm. Japan has always had its ever-changing four seasons, which is a wonderful thing, but it’s possible that we might end up with just two seasons: summer and winter. Today, I had plenty of time to spend with Kurumi. We played with toys until he got tired, and then he would sleep, repeating this cycle.

工場で働く最後の日になりました。昼休みに工場の周囲を散歩してみました。とても暑く、蝉がたくさんいます。裏の池からはカエルの鳴き声も聞こえてきます。ここは長閑な場所です。次に来る予定はありません。工場でお世話になった人に感謝して帰宅の途につきました。帰宅したら夜 10 時になっていましたが、クルミは私を見るとおもちゃで一緒に遊べと甘えていました。

Today was my last day working at the factory. During lunch break, I took a stroll around the factory premises. It was scorching hot, and there were many cicadas around. I could hear the croaking of frogs from the pond at the back. It’s a peaceful place. I don’t have any plans to come back here again. I expressed my gratitude to the people who took care of me at the factory and started my journey back home. By the time I arrived home, it was already 10 PM, and my dog, Kurumi, was eagerly asking to play with his toys together as soon as he saw me.

夏は日本の各所でお祭りの行事が行われます。仙台の七夕祭りは来週 8 月 7 日に行われます。今週、私が働いているこの工場の入口にも七夕を祝って飾られています。お祭りは人が集って平和と健康を願って祝うことにあります。異常な高温気候が続きますが、人々が健康で幸せであることを願います。

In summer, various festivals are held all over Japan. The Tanabata festival in Sendai will take place on August 7th next week. This week, the entrance of the factory where I work is also decorated to celebrate Tanabata. Festivals are gatherings where people come together to celebrate and pray for peace and good health. Despite the abnormal hot weather continuing, I hope that people remain healthy and happy.

今日は午後、雷雨が降りました。しかし、30分もすると再び強い日差しが戻ってきました。少しは気温が下がったかと思ったのですが、短時間の雨は湿度を上げるだけだったようです。仕事を終えてから今日も少し歩いてみました。夏の雲が空に綺麗に浮かんでいました。日暮にはヒグラシが聞こえてきました。

It rained heavily with thunderstorms this afternoon. However, after about 30 minutes, the strong sunlight returned once again. I thought the temperature might have dropped a bit, but the brief rain seemed to only increase the humidity. After finishing work, I took a short walk today as well. Beautiful summer clouds were floating in the sky. As evening approached, I could hear the cicadas singing.

今日から会社の会議室で一日中座る仕事が始まりました。朝夕は少しでも身体を動かそうと思い、カメラを手に歩いてみました。雪国のためにテレビのアンテナは縦についています。米が有名なこの地域は田んぼが広がっています。夕方からは少し雲が出てきましたが、ここも猛暑の日が続いています。

I started a job today where I have to sit in the company’s meeting room all day long. In the morning and evening, I tried to move my body a little, so I took a walk with a camera in hand. In this snowy region, the TV antennas are oriented vertically. This area, famous for its rice production, has vast rice fields. In the evening, some clouds started to appear, but we are still experiencing scorching hot days here.

クルミくんの具合が悪いので獣医に診てもらうことにしました。5 月にも同じ症状で注射と薬をいただいたのですが、同じ症状が再発しています。クルミくんはこの時期、同じように具合を悪くするようです。私たちもこの暑さに体調を崩してしまいますので、小さな身体のクルミくんにはもっと辛いのかも知れません。私はそのまま東北地方にある工場まで出張です。明日から金曜までの仕事が待っています。しばらくの間クルミくんとはお別れになります。

We decided to take Kurumi to the veterinarian because he’s not feeling well. In May, he had the same symptoms and received injections and medication, but now the same symptoms have recurred. It seems that Kurumi tends to fall ill around this time of the year. With the heat taking a toll on us, it must be even harder for little Kurumi with his small body. I have a business trip to the factory in the Tohoku region, starting tomorrow and lasting until Friday. So, I’ll be away from Kurumi for a while.

レストランのオーナーに依頼されて入口のドアクローザーを交換しました。この店が開店した 40 年以上前から使い続けてきたクローザーは内部のオイルが漏れていてドアが閉まる時にバタンと閉まってしまいます。新しいクローザーは気持ち良くドアを閉めてくれるようになりました。これでお客様に不愉快が思いをさせなくて済むとオーナーは喜んでいました。今夜は近くの公園で 4 年ぶりの花火大会が行われています。私の家からは微かにその音が聞こえるだけですが、多くの人が集まっているようです。クルミは今日も少し具合が悪く家の中でのんびりと過ごしていました。

I was asked by the restaurant owner to replace the entrance door closer. The closer they had been using since the restaurant opened over 40 years ago was leaking oil internally, causing the door to slam shut with a bang when closing. The new closer now smoothly shuts the door, providing a pleasant experience for the customers. The owner was delighted that this would no longer inconvenience the customers. Tonight, there is a fireworks festival in the nearby park, the first one in four years. I can faintly hear the sounds from my house, and it seems that many people have gathered there. As for Kurumi, he is still feeling a bit unwell and spending a relaxing day inside the house.

今日は、仕事のために外出していました。昼食をファミリーレストランでいただくことにしました。係の人が席まで案内してくれましたが、その後はテーブルに備え付けられているタブレットでメニューを見ながら注文します。そして、料理はロボットが運んで来ました。驚くことは支払いもタブレットでスマホを使った決済ができます。最初に係の人に会った後は店の人と会うことはありませんでした。進歩していることを感じる反面、少し複雑な気分になりました。短い時間でしたが、帰宅してからクルミくんと遊ぶことができました。今日も暑い一日でした。

I was out today for work. I decided to have lunch at a family restaurant. A staff member showed me to my seat, but afterward, I ordered using the tablet provided on the table, where I could browse through the menu. The dishes were brought to me by robots, which was surprising. What’s more, I could pay using my smartphone through the tablet’s payment system. Apart from the initial interaction with the staff member, I didn’t have to meet anyone else from the restaurant. While I felt the progress in technology, it also made me feel a bit complex. It was a short time, but I could play with Kurumi after returning home. It was another hot day today.

日本の滝百選に選ばれている払沢の滝を訪れてきました。駐車場に車を停めてから滝までおよそ 1km の道はせせらぎが聞こえる川沿い、木のチップが敷き詰められていて歩きやすい道でした。今日も猛暑でしたが、滝の側は涼しく、とても気持ちが良い空間でした。近くのカフェはエアコンが効いた室内にクルミも入れたので助かりました。窓際は満席でしたが、そこからは川のせせらぎが見られるようです。美味しいランチをいただきました。暑い日なのでクルミを連れて行くのは気が引けましたが、やはりみんなで来てよかったと思います。

We visited the Hossawa-no-taki Waterfall, which has been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls. The approximately 1km path from the parking lot to the waterfall follows a riverbank where you can hear the babbling stream, and it’s a comfortable walk with wood chips laid on the ground. Despite the scorching heat today, the area around the waterfall was cool and provided a very pleasant atmosphere. The nearby cafe was a relief with its air-conditioned interior and they even welcome Kurumi. Although the window seats were fully occupied, it seems you could still catch a glimpse of the river’s babbling from there. I enjoyed a delicious lunch. It was a hot day, and I hesitated to bring Kurumi along, but I still think it was great that everyone came together.

世界水泳大会が日本の福岡で開催されています。若い選手たちが記録を塗り替えていく姿に感動します。人間はどこまで早く泳ぐことができるようになるのでしょうか？人間はどこまで高いところから飛び降りることができるようになるのでしょうか？素晴らしいことです。クルミくんは獣医に月健診をしてもらいました。最近、少し体調を崩しているのはエアコンの冷たい風の影響かもしれないと聞いたので、今夜は温度を少し上げて眠ろうと思います。

The World Swimming Championships are being held in Fukuoka, Japan. I am deeply moved by the sight of young athletes rewriting records. How fast can humans eventually swim? How high can humans eventually dive from? It’s amazing. As for Kurumi, he had his monthly health check-up at the veterinarian. I heard that he’s been a little under the health lately, possibly due to the cold air from the air conditioner. So, tonight, I plan to raise the temperature a bit and get sleep.
