紅葉がとても綺麗です。近くの観光地には多くの人が訪れています。今日は 20 ℃を超える暖かい日になりました。きっと今日も多くの観光客が来ていたことでしょう。クルミくんはどうしているか、心配しています。なるべく考えないようにしているのですが、家族の一人と同じクルミくんのことはやはり思い出してしまいます。明日、妻が獣医と会って退院の日取りを話してくることになりました。

Autumn leaves are very beautiful. Many people are visiting nearby tourist attractions. Today was a warm day with temperatures reaching over 20 degrees Celsius. I am sure there must have been many tourists here today. I am worried about how Kurumi is doing. I try not to think about it, but I still remember Kurumi, he is the same as one of my family members. Tomorrow, my wife will meet with the veterinarian to discuss the date of his discharge.

今朝も妻と一緒にクルミくんが入院している病院を訪ねてクルミくんを見舞ってきました。ちょうど朝食時だったので、距離を空けてクルミくんを見てきました。食欲もあり、お通じも正常になっているということを獣医から聞いて安心しました。主治医は水曜までいないので、今度は水曜に妻が病院に行くことにしました。

This morning, my wife and I visited the hospital where Kurumi is hospitalized to visit him again. It was just breakfast time, so we kept our distance to see Kurumi. I was relieved to hear from the vet that he has a good appetite and his bowel movements are normal. His doctor was not in until Wednesday, so my wife decided to go to the hospital this time on Wednesday.

1975 年に卒業した同期の友人と久しぶりに会うことにしました。6 人の仲間なのですが、今日は 4 人が集まりました。都心のカラオケボックスで 3 時間、お互いの近況を話し合って過ごしました。結局 1 曲も歌うことはなく時間が過ぎました。この先も、全員が集合できる機会は少ないかも知れません。クルミくんが家に来た時のことを思い出していました。14 年前、クルミくんは小さくて真っ黒な毛をしていました。

I decided to meet with my classmates we have graduated in 1975 for the first time in a long time. 6 of us are friends, but today 4 of us got together. We spent three hours in a karaoke box in the center of Tokyo, talking about what we had been up to. In the end, we passed the time without singing a single song. We may not have many chances to get together again in the future. I was thinking back to when Kurumi first came to our house 14 years ago, when he was small and had dark hair.

今日もクルミくんの様子を聞きに獣医を訪ねました。クルミくんは眠っていました。獣医はクルミくんの様子は順調だと言っていて安心しましたが、まだ退院の時期については未定とのことで、私たちは週明けにまた来ることにしました。家にいてもクルミくんがいないと寂しいものです。妻と夜の街に出て夕食をいただくことにしました。

Today we visited the vet again to ask how Kurumi was doing. Kurumi was sleeping. The vet reassured us that Kurumi was doing well, but he said he had not yet decided when he would be discharged, so we decided to come back again after the weekend. Even though we were home, we missed Kurumi. My wife and I decided to go out for a night on the town and have dinner.

朝、クルミくんの面会に病院に行ってきました。私たちの顔を見ると家に帰りたがると思い、写真は看護婦さんにお願いして撮ってもらいました。ケージの中で点滴を受けているクルミくんは寂しそうにしています。私たちが来たことが分かったのか、すぐに吠え出してしまったので、帰ることにしました。明日は手術を担当した獣医と会えるので午後、病院に行って話を聞いてきます。老犬なためか腎臓に障害が出ているようなので、これからの処方についても相談する必要があります。
家のキンカンが色づき始めました。玄関のドアを開けると椋鳥が逃げていきます。キンカンが甘くなってきたのでしょう。

In the morning, we went to the hospital to visit Kurumi. We thought he would want to go home when he saw our faces, so I asked the nurse to take his picture. Kurumi is in his cage receiving an IV drip and looks lonely. He started barking as soon as he realized we were there, so we decided to leave. Tomorrow we can meet the veterinarian in charge of the surgery, so we will go to the hospital in the afternoon to talk to him. Kurumi seems to be suffering from kidney damage, probably because he is an old dog, so we need to discuss the future prescription with the vet.
The kumquats at home have started to change color. When I open the front door, the starling birds run away. It is the sign that the kumquats be getting sweeter.

クルミくんは入院の日となりました。朝から食事ができないのでかわいそうです。車で病院に向かう間、いつもと違うことがわかるのか眠ることはありませんでした。朝から準備のために入院し、手術は夕方から開始されたようです。そして夜、獣医から手術が無事に終わったことを知らされました。クルミくんはまだ麻酔から覚めていないようですが、明日は見舞いに行けるようです。この先少しの間は入院となります。クルミくんがいない家は何か寂しいものです。

Today is a day of hospitalization for Kurumi. I feel sorry for him because he has not been able to eat since this morning. While we drove to the hospital, he did not sleep, as if he could tell that things were different from usual. He was admitted to the hospital in the morning for preparation, and the surgery seemed to start in the evening. At night, the veterinarian informed us that the surgery had been successfully completed. Kurumi has not woken up from the anesthesia yet, but we will be able to visit him tomorrow. He will be in the hospital for the next little while. It will be lonely at home without Kurumi.

クルミくんに病気がみつかりました。今朝、トリマーさんが指摘してくれて、早速獣医に診せたところ明日、手術することになりました。犬特有の病気のようです。腸が身体の中で移動してしまい、排便に障害を起こす「会陰（えいん）ヘルニア」という病気だそうです。急変したものではなく、徐々に腸の場所が変化して気づくようになったみたいです。以前からも排便の調子が良くなかったのはこれが原因かも知れません。歳をとっていますが、心臓の様子も良好なようで、獣医は手術を決断しました。今日はいつものように一緒に過ごして、明日の朝、クルミくんは入院です。私たちは獣医を信頼して、クルミくんが元気になって帰ってくることを願うだけです。

Kurumi has been found to be sick. The trimmer pointed it out to us this morning and we immediately took him to the vet and he will have surgery tomorrow. It seems to be a dog-specific disease. It is a disease called “hernia of the perineum” in which the intestines move inside the body and cause problems with defecation. It is not a sudden change, but rather a gradual change in the location of the intestines that it has come to notice. This may be the reason why his bowel movements have not been good even before. Although he is getting older, his heart seems to be doing well and the vet has decided to operate. Today we will spend time together as usual, and tomorrow morning Kurumi will be admitted to the hospital. We just trust the vet and hope that Kurumi will come back home in good health.

大学での講義も後 4 回を残すになってしまいました。先週から席替えをするようになって、今日も学生と一緒に翻訳の講義を受けることができました。短い時間なので学生との会話を楽しむことはできませんが、英文を一緒に翻訳するのは楽しいものです。クルミくんは今日も陽の暖かさに包まれて昼寝を楽しんでいました。

I have only four more lectures left at the university. Since last week, we have started to change seats, so I was able to attend the translation lecture with a student again today. It is a short lecture, so I can’t enjoy talking with the student, but it is fun to translate English sentences together with them. Kurumi was enjoying a nap in the warmth of the sun today.

朝のニュースでは週末荒れた天気のことが報じられていました。息子たちが訪れた観光地も雪のために混乱が起きているようです。海外からの観光客がレンタカーで訪れて困っている様子も報じられていました。急激に冬が近づいていることを感じます。クルミくんは私の顔を見ると庭に出すように訴えてきます。夕方になって冷えてきたのですが、クルミくんは元気に走り回っていました。

The morning news reported on the rough weather over the weekend. The tourist destinations my sons visited also seemed to be in disarray due to the snow. It was also reported that tourists from overseas were having trouble with their rental cars. I feel that winter is rapidly approaching. When Kurumi sees my face, he appeals to me to let him out into the garden. It was getting cold in the evening, but Kurumi was running around energetically.

風が強かった昨日から一転して今日は穏やかで暖かい日となりました。そんな暖かさに誘われて毎年行われているイチョウ祭りに行ってみました。国道のイチョウ並木が黄色くなる頃に行われているこのお祭りに今年も多くの人が来ていました。クルミくんは今日も元気に遊んでいます。

After yesterday’s windy weather, today was a calm and warm day. Such warmth lured me to the annual Ginkgo Festival. This festival is held when the ginkgo trees along the national road turn yellow, and many people came this year as well. Kurumi is playing energetically today.
